Hi there, I am very glad and proud to announce here that I've came up with a prototype of dancer2 that pleases me enough to be advertised. -*- https://github.com/sukria/dancer2 -*- dancer2 is a complete rewrite of Dancer aiming at providing the same awesomeness with the following major changes: - no more globals in the core - 100% object-oriented backend (based on Moo) - better scoping for sub-applications - better design (no more encapsulation violations, Law of Demeter, ...) The prototype I've pushed to GitHub currently covers ~80% of the DSL of Dancer. It's able to run simple applications (it can run the PerlDancer.org website for instance). Of course, with your real-life applications, it will break in many places in this current shape, and this is where you can help. I'd like to have as many reports as possible regarding upgrades tests. You can test very easily your app with dancer2: $ git clone http://github.com/sukria/dancer2.git $ cd YOUR_APP $ perl -I../dancer2/lib bin/app.pl Also, important to know: most of the plugins may not be working well. Strange errors while running multiple dancer apps with mount

I have 2 applications that work fine when run individually. One uses sessions (Storable) and the other does not use sessions at all. When mounted as recommended in Dancer::Deployment<https://metacpan.org/module/Dancer::Deployment#Running-multiple-apps-with-P…> however, I get strange errors depending on the sequence that I visit the two applications. app1 does not use sessions and app2 uses sessions (Storable) My app.psgi can be viewed here: http://pastie.org/4004017 Here is what I find: 1. When I visit http://localhost:5000/app1 first and then http://localhost:5000/app2. app2 dies with an error: "core - Must specify session engine in settings prior to using 'session' keyword at...". The Settings section in the Debug panel shows no session related settings even though they are present in config.yml 2. When I visit http://localhost:5000/app2 and then http://localhost:5000/app1, app2 dies again but with a different error: "core - template - file error - signin_header.tt: not found at...". signin_header.tt is used in the index template using [% INCLUDE....%] directive of TT. This time, the session related settings are correctly displayed in the debug panel 3. When I visit app2, then app1, then back to app2, I get the session error described in item 1. 4. Sometimes, and this is random, app2 (the one that uses sessions) also loses the value of the database configuration parameters (I use Dancer::Plugin::Database) giving me a "...database not defined..." error. But this is once in about 8-10 visits. Situations 1, 2 and 3 however play out each time. It appears to me that if two apps one using sessions and the other not, then visiting the application that does not use sessions somehow deletes the session settings of the other application. I can easily fix the error in item 2 (template not found..) by giving the full path of the template, but I would lose the very advantage that makes hosting multiple apps *without making any change* to their configuration so attractive. I have tried to debug this for a few days and am unable to figure this. Would really appreciate some help/pointers here. Thank you.

Hi all, I've recently discovered a problem where I wrote a small daemon to handle a few tasks for my Dancer application. Unfortunately, I need more options beyond the option port, deamon, environment, help, confdir and restart arguments. I've temporary hacked together an solution that let's me do this: perl bin/rtb_deamon.pl --verbose --force --once \ --environment production But it might be nice if someone thought of a *clean* way of allowing extra arguments beyond those hard-coded into Dancer::GetOpt. Hello. What are the proper way to write tests for parts of Dancer application which are acceptable after user logged in? I.e., for example: ---- hook 'before' => sub { if ( !session('username') and request->path !~ qr{^/login} ) { redirect '/login'; } }; get '/login' => sub { # appropriate template }; post '/login' => sub { # set up session('username') }; get '/auth_only' => sub { ... } ---- How can I write tests for '/auth_only'? -- Anatoly

documentation for forward method

Hi all, I am having trouble with the documentation for "forward" as found at: If you go to http://search.cpan.org/dist/Dancer/lib/Dancer.pm#forward In the first place, I am finding that the statement "forward doesn't parse GET arguments" seems to be untrue. presuming an HTTP request like: 'http://localhost/foo?quux=blah' and some routes like: ---- get '/foo' => sub { return forward "/bar", { err => "from foo" }; }; get '/bar' => sub { my $f = param "quux"; return $f; }; ---- Dancer *will* return "blah", which on my interpretation of the documentation should not be possible. Secondly and more importantly from my perspective, the documentation does not explain explicitly how to get at my optional parameters once in /bar (the '{ err => "from foo" }' bit.) It's not an element of @_. Eventually, I figured out that I can use 'request->params->{err}', but this is not explicitly stated, and possibly not the intended way to do it. I'm on 1.3095. Thanks GJ

Dancer + bootstrap + font-awesome template

Hello Dancers, I recently found myself starting couple of Dancer applications from scratch, and every time had to go through the same motions: Enable Template::Toolkit, update JQuery, add Twitter's Bootstrap, add Font-Awesome, update layout, etc. So I created a new template - perhaps other interested parties can use it to start dancing even faster. It starts a template just like "dancer -a", but with bootstrap + font-awesome already integrated (and two script to easily upgrade both). forward() and prefix

Hello dancers, it looks like forward() doesn't imply the application prefix. This might even be a regression, but I'm not sure about this. For example: === load_app 'Foo::Bar', prefix => '/foo'; package Foo::Bar; use Dancer ':syntax'; get '/' => sub { forward '/baz' }; get '/baz' => sub { "Hello world" }; === Calls to /foo/ from outside are correctly routed to the first handler, but then the forward fails because /baz is not internally prepended with the application prefix. A workaround is to add the prefix to the path supplied to forward() explicitely but this violates encapsulation. I think forward() should just prepend its first argument with the current application prefix before trying to route the request. Opinions? :) - Alessandro

A new plugin to Internationalization.

Hi all, It's me again with a new plugin. I don't like so much Locale::Maketext, Gettext and Data::Localize. I discovered Locale::Wolowitz a very cool module use json to manage file. So I wrote a little wrapper to used with Dancer, again I hope the code look fine and be useful. plugins: Locale::Wolowitz: lang_session: "lang" locale_path_directory: "i18n" For the next version I must add tests, improve the code and add new features.
