Event kicks off today, first game All Blacks v Tonga 8.15 p.m. local. The whole country seems ready to party after an annus
horibulus: a mine disaster, two major earthquakes.....

I worked in Christchurch for two years and two of the places I used to work in are variously empty space four floors up, collapsed
down to ground floor level, and the cathedral bell tower where I learnt bell ringing,is one quarter the height it was.....

on a lighter note, this is an election year, elections due in November but both major parties have indicated they will not be door
knocking during Cup matches.....:)

I have been watching with some bemusement the Republican preselection moves in the US....I don't know whether to laugh or cry :)

P.S. Apparently Toshiba has unveiled a pretty good 3D television, glasses free, at the tech show in Germany.
