You did see Matt's helpful response right?

 From skimming back, you have an ADSL router, a cable from which is 
plugged into one of those ethernet-over-the-mains widgets, and emerges 
the other side of the house somewhere, where there are two machines 
which you want to share one power->ethernet thingy.

Plug a switch into that ethernet over power adaptor thing (the one where 
the two machines are), plug both machines into that, sorted.
