permission denied when trying to write_file

The small app I was creating works ‘perfect’ locally. A folder is scanned for images. The images are listed and a user then can give tags/description to the images. The updates are stored in a ‘yaml-file’ (for now). When deploying it on a server I get: [hit #10]request to POST /edit/0 crashed: write_file 'myImages.yml' - sysopen: Permission denied at... The code of the POST post '/edit/:id' => sub { my $data = get_AoH_imagelist(); my @data = @{$data}; my $id = param('id'); $data[$id]{tags} = params->{tags}; $data[$id]{description} = params->{description}; my $filename = "myImages.yml"; write_file $filename, to_yaml($data); redirect '/data'; }; Just thougth to change the permissions of the file but that didn't work. It has been a long journey. A RESTful service, login with encrypted password. This issue seems to be the last hurdle. Hope someone is able to hint me in a direction to solve this. Thanks, Gert

How to miminise $response->{content} of the 500 error page?

Here is my problem. I'm writing a small Dancer1 app. I'm writing tests to simplify the development. In my code I use a lot of `croak` to die in any unusual situation. Everything works fine, but I have one small thing I hope can be done better. (Actually everyting is working, but I want to make the development a bit more better) My problem is with the test output. In my test I create Dancer::Response object: my $response = dancer_response( GET => '/die' ); and then test if `$response->{content}` contains needed text. In case the `croak` is executed the `$response->{content}` contaings huge html page with 500 error. So, here is what I see when I run the test: https://upload.bessarabov.ru/bessarabov/djXe9Nlm_EnI_TCnPn8sRQjFxKY.png Well, that output contains the error message that I need, but it is in the beginning of the content, and I need to scroll to that content to find out what was the error message: https://upload.bessarabov.ru/bessarabov/hyycVMgrmrC2x5yAbo0GHZt1lG4.png I hope that there is some simple way to simplify the output of tests to make it easier to develop. I was thinking about the solution, the only think that I can imagine is to made Dancer output my custom error page that has nothing but error message. What do you think? Current state of I18N?

Hi dancer-users, I am looking into some I18N plugins for Dancer and was hoping someone could help me choose a good solution. My templates are all in Template Toolkit, and I realize that auto-generating po and mo files is likely going to be difficult and or buggy so I will do that myself. Currently I’m stuck trying to choose how to set the locale and have TextDomain serve content correctly. There is a plugin called Dancer::Plugin::Locale that nics on github wrote. I am still having trouble with this module. Checking out the dev branch from https://github.com/nics/Dancer-Plugin-Locale and running tests fails. Are there other plugins that people use or can point me to somewhere which is a tried and true I18N solution? Thanks, Dave

Help with Dancer2 and Oracle DB, please. Problem with encoding

I am beginner in Dancer. Help me please. I am having database on Oracle 10g. Web server and Oracle Client is working under openSUSE 12.3. DB data encoding is Windows-1251 (I can't change this). I have set system environment variable NLS_LANG = AMARICAN_AMERICA.CL8MSWIN1251. I am constantly workin with Perl and Oracle DB and always do so. My system console character set in openSUSE is UTF-8. But after select I get the data in a double byte character set (I looked in log). And this is not UTF-8. Why? What am I doing wrong? Setting a cookie resets the session?

I have a login page POST handler, and I want to remember the login parameters for the next attempt: post '/login' => sub { if (handle_login(stuff)) { cookie 'myapp' => { 'username' => params->{username}, 'other' => params->{stuff}, }; redirect '/'; # top-level app URL } # else, login failed, so stay on /login route }; It seems that as soon as I set the cookie, I invalidate the session. I know this because I have a "before" hook that checks whether the session is logged in, and bounces me back to the '/login' route. Without the cookie() call, I get logged in, and go to '/'. With it, I keep getting bounced back to '/login' because Dumper(session) gives me a blank session with only an id field set. How and where am I *supposed* to set the cookie, so it stays attached to the newly-logged-in session?

debug vs wide character in print

Hello all, when `debug $something` in development environment with log to console I have russian (utf8) symbols in $something sometimes. Dancer app crashes when log it with "wide character in print [...]". basic question about view/templates

Good day, probably a very basic question but i don't get the picture clear how it should be done. I already have a basic application running which collects the data from a mysql database.I'm also making use of html::table::fromdatabase to get a table view of all the selectable items. The table has been adjusted that when the user selects a row it gets pointed to a route handler. So now comes the question. How can i setup the route&view/layouts in such a way that the user is now capable of editing and updating the entries. the user gets pointed towards: /edit/.... i think i can now have the following sub: get '/edit/:client_name' =>sub { .......what's required here........?????? }; but now i'm stuck i don't know what to do. the db_table is quite simple: client_name is the key and has 3 other rows var1 string var2 string var3 string So i would like now to be able to show a page which shows the end user var1/var2/var3 and provide the possibility to update the 3 vars. Any help is appreciated.

session() auto-flush

I tried passing the return value of session() into a function in another module which purposely does not "use Dancer". Thus, I cannot use the global DSL functions without explicit qualification. This other module modifies the session object, so the code looked something like this: package App::Helper; sub do_something_interesting { my ($session) = @_; $session->{foo} = 'bar'; # ... and lots more like that } To my surprise, I found that in the calling route handler... get '/myroute' => sub { do_something_interesting(session()); session 'more' => 'changes here'; } ...the changes to the session object made by the helper module got lost. I finally tracked it down to the fact that session(X, Y) automatically calls flush() on the object for you, whereas session() with no parameters returns a hashref that doesn't auto-flush itself. On one level, I guess live and learn. But, is it good design for Dancer to simply forget all my changes? Why doesn't the second line in my route handler simply continue to modify the in-memory session object, and flush all the changes at once?

Without any actual internal knowledge, my one guess would be forking. If you make a database connection into a variable (e.g. database, or $dbh) then you fork, then you can no longer access that connection. There is a way to share a pool of connections (in apache aka Apache::DBI) or I used to use PerChild directive on Apache to make a connection. Now it should all be handled, but maybe it isn’t?
