solving starman error with dancer's .psgi file

But, here is a more confounding problem; to access the above as an apache virtual host, I change httpd.conf to <VirtualHost foo.local:80> ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:5001/ ProxyPassReverse / http://127.0.0.1:5001/ </VirtualHost> and change only the following line in foo.psgi to - mount "/" => builder {$app}; + mount "http://foo.local" => builder {$app}; But, now I get the following error Error while loading foo.psgi: Paths need to start with / at /Users/punkish/perl5/perlbrew/perls/perl-5.14.1/lib/site_perl/5.14.1/Plack/Builder.pm line 89

Is it possible to choose the Backend server via config.yml

Hi, I would like to share my application as PAR and a executable so that the backend server (say, Starlet) is chosen from a configuration settings rather than chosen on the command line (plackup -s Starlet ./app.pl). Is this possible? Thank you.

Profiling Dancer app with Devel::NYTProf

Hi, D::NYTProf requires that the profiled application exit cleanly. Dancer::dance does not return and the only way to exit a dancer app (to my limited knowledge) is to either hit Ctrl-C or kill -HUP if running with -d. How can I exit a Dancer app cleanly so that NYTProf can write its profile Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to Dancer and having moved from HTML::Mason I'm much impressed, but I'm having deployment problems. deployment woes (general note)

Dancer has been out a while now, and is used widely. Yet, I still continue to encounter major difficulties and puzzlement in deploying multiple Dancer apps. I don't believe I have particularly weird requirements, yet, I don't see much noise wrt deployment. That leads me to believe that I am understanding Dancer's deployment mechanism inadequately. Here is my general deployment scenario -- I have a Mac OS X server with Apache, and several "institutional" web sites served off of that. Let's call them /Library/WebServer/Documents/proj1 [http://myserver.edu/proj1] /Library/WebServer/Documents/proj2 [http://myserver.edu/proj2] .. I don't want to mess with the above at all, and want to tinker with httpd.conf as minimally as possible. I log into my account on the computer, use perlbrew to install the latest perl under /Users/punkish/perl5, install all my own perl modules including Starman, and make the following Dancer applications [1] /Users/punkish/Sites/myapp1 [http://myserver.edu/myapp1] [2] /Users/punkish/Sites/myapp2 [http://myapp2.myserver.edu] [3] /Users/punkish/Sites/myapp3 [http://myapp3.org] [4] /Users/punkish/Sites/myapp4 [http://myapp4.myapp3.org] [1] appears as just a sub-directory myserver.edu, not unlike proj1 and proj2. [2] is a sub-domain of myserver.edu [3] is a completely separate domain [4] is a sub-domain of [3] I also have the following as a common location for various JavaScript libraries, and a few css templates, I use for all my apps [0] /Users/punkish/Sites/lib [http://myserver.edu/punkish/lib] [<relative to any app>/lib] So, I can serve [1] using Starman with the following configuration ---- ## web.psgi use Dancer ':syntax'; use Plack::Builder; setting apphandler => 'PSGI'; my $htdocs = '/Users/punkish/Sites'; my $foo = sub { my $env = shift; local $ENV{DANCER_APPDIR} = "$htdocs/foo"; setting appdir => "$htdocs/foo"; load_app "foo"; Dancer::App->set_running_app('foo'); Dancer::Config->load; my $request = Dancer::Request->new( env => $env ); Dancer->dance( $request ); }; builder { # The following allows serving files from /lib # much like the Alias directive in Apache enable "Static", path => sub { s!^/lib/!! }, root => "/Users/punkish/Sites/lib"; mount "/foo" => builder {$foo}; }; ---- I can serve [2], [3], and [4] using Apache VirtualHost directive, but can I do that using Starman? using Starman for powering dancer apps

I have been using Dancer exclusively with Apache until now, but in a new environment, I want to experiment with Starman (or any other perl-based server) via Apache proxy. The machine in question is running Apache, and I am not inclined to tinker with that more than the minimum necessary. I created an app "foo" in ~/Documents/www. I am able to run it like so ~/Documents/www/foo$ plackup -E deployment -s Starman --workers=10 -p 5001 -a bin/app.pl 2011/07/03-17:43:13 Starman::Server (type Net::Server::PreFork) starting! pid(3374) Binding to TCP port 5001 on host * Setting gid to "501 501 501 401 204 100 98 80 61 12 102 402" Going to http://127.0.0.1:5001/ gives me my app "foo" Now, I added the following in the apache conf file ---- ProxyRequests Off <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /foo http://127.0.0.1:5001 ProxyPassReverse /foo http://127.0.0.1:5001 ---- and then, going to http://mycomputer.local/foo also returns my app "foo" correctly. Ok, then I added another app "bar" under ~/Documents/www (sibling to "foo"). Now, I am trying to run multiple apps as per the instructions at [http://search.cpan.org/~sukria/Dancer-1.3060/lib/Dancer/Deployment.pod] under the heading "Running multiple apps with Plack::Builder". I created the following web.psgi file in ~/bin ---- use Dancer ':syntax'; use Plack::Builder; setting apphandler => 'PSGI'; my $app1 = sub { my $env = shift; setting appdir => '/Users/punkish/Documents/www/foo', setting appname => 'foo'; load_app "foo"; Dancer::Config->load; my $request = Dancer::Request->new( env => $env ); Dancer->dance( $request ); }; my $app2 = sub { my $env = shift; setting appdir => '/Users/punkish/Documents/www/bar', setting appname => 'bar'; load_app "bar"; Dancer::Config->load; my $request = Dancer::Request->new( env => $env ); Dancer->dance( $request ); }; builder { mount "/foo" => builder {$app1}; mount "/bar" => builder {$app2}; }; ---- and then I entered the following command: ~/bin$ plackup -E deployment -s Starman --workers=10 -p 5001 -a ~/bin/web.psgi But, now I get "Not Found" error. So, besides generally seeking guidance for this, I have the following specific questions -- One, in "setting appdir => '/Users/punkish/Documents/www/foo'" what exactly is my appdir? Is '/Users/punkish/Documents/www/foo' correct? Two, are both "foo" and "bar" going to be accessible at http://127.0.0.1:5001/? Do I just add the following lines to my httpd.conf ---- ProxyPass /foo http://127.0.0.1:5001 ProxyPassReverse /foo http://127.0.0.1:5001 ProxyPass /bar http://127.0.0.1:5001 ProxyPassReverse /bar http://127.0.0.1:5001 ---- Three, how do I run plackup in the background? I want to run it, but be able to close the shell, and even logout and have it running. Four, if I have a single web.psgi as above, one disadvantage is that if I tinker with any one app, and have to turn off or restart Starman, it will affect all the apps powered by Starman. Perhaps a better situation would be to have a separate Starman process for each app. What is the best practice here? Puneet.

It should be possible to amend template() to check if there's a request and if not, skip adding params as a token - I'll take a look soon. Hi Dancers, Why don't we extend the example app dancr to a WordPress-for-Perl-Hackers?. Last time I looked sukria.org it seemed to be made with Wordpress. Same for other perl sites (e.g. rakudo.org?). We could start a project to rebuild sukria.org with Dancer. I have the impression that most of the functionality is already available as Dancer Plugin or one of the sites we already build with Dancer. What we need is just a project to bring the best of it together. Built on dancer, modularized, leight-weight, easy to install, dancer quality. I am probably underestimating the effort, a little as usual. Why should we do this? Because like this we could attract a few more perl hackers to the team. Imagine what we could do with five SawyerXs. I think every time you did something like the advent calander it brought us a few new people. Since you are always 3 steps ahead of me this is probably not a new idea. Does this project already exist? Is now the time for it? maurice PS: I was thinking of a nice name that alludes to Dancer. Like Salsero. PPS: I hope you allow me to say "we".
