Hi! I'm trying to setup a dev environment (inside a perlbrew local lib) and I'm stuck at this <https://github.com/PerlDancer/Dancer2/blob/master/GitGuide.md#running-your-…> command, receiving back: > Failed to find share dir for dist 'Dancer2' at > lib/Dancer2/CLI/Command/gen.pm line 62. which I guess is to be expected seen that I haven't installed the 'Dancer2' dist from CPAN. How do you call that 'script/dancer2' bin around that share dir check ? Thanks. -- Marco

New Dancer2 Site - Line of Succession

In my spare time, over the last month or so I've built https://lineofsuccesion.co.uk/ - a web site that displays the line of succession to the British throne over the last hundred or so years[1]. The code is at https://github.com/davorg/succession/ Obviously, when I was writing a web app, I reached for Dancer. There's no clever Dancer code there at all, but it makes the job easy. Thanks for maintaining the framework. Dave... [1] The plan is to go back 300 years. But data is hard :-)

More questions about testing

I'm trying to get up to speed on integrating tests into a simple plugin I wrote. I wrote a couple of tests that ensure my module injects the expected code into a template. I believe this would be considered to be an "author's test" and wouldn't need to run upon installation. Does that mean I should create an "xt/" directory with my plugin distribution and put my tests in there? Regarding tests for installation, which I believe should go in the "t/" directory, which tests should I write for that?

Testing documentation is lacking for newbs

So I'm trying to figure out how to do testing Dancer 2 apps. For someone like me, relatively new to testing, it's unclear just where these tests should do and how to execute them. I read the docs but they didn't address my questions. With the default skeleton, I see there are two tests in t/ folder. They aren't executable nor do they have the shebang line. So I'm left scratching my head as to what to do with these tests and what they are used for and whether I should bother to modify them and add more tests to them. I tried making t/001_base.t executable and I just get an error that it couldn't load my module.

Any way to import plugins into extension apps?

Here's the few lines from a hypothetical MainApp in /lib: # File 1 package MainApp; use ExtendingApp; use HTML::Element; And here is a perl module that extends this app. # File 2 package ExtendingApp; use Dancer2 appname => MainApp; get '/' => sub { my $element = HTML::Element->new('h1'); }; ### END ### This works. I get no errors because the HTML::Element module can be seen inside routes. However, unless I'm missing something, this doesn't work. # File 1 package MainApp; use ExtendingApp; use Dancer2::Plugin::Database; # File 2 package ExtendingApp; use Dancer2 appname => MainApp; get '/' => sub { my @data = database->quick_select('test_table', {}); }; ### END ### The above results in an error: Can't locate object method "quick_select" via package "database" (perhaps you forgot to load "database"?) I'm forced to add "use Dancer2::Plugin::Database" to File 2. I'm curious to know if there's some way to import commonly used plugins into extension apps. Thanks!

And in support of Andy's comments below - I put a debug warn statement at the start of each sub in Extensible.pm and Database.pm to work out where things weren't working. Also turn up your logging to get the 'debug' level reports from DPAE into your logs. Template::Tiny vs ForkedTiny

Hi again, I am still into the templating systems of Dancer. It seems Dancer2 requires Template::Tiny in its cpanfile but it never uses it. Instead there is a re-implementation of it at https://metacpan.org/pod//Dancer2::Template::Implementation::ForkedTiny I am wondering why not use Template::Tiny? And if it isn't in use then why require it? regards Gabor

Dancer 1 FCGI deployment quandry

Hi List, I have a web application at Dreamhost.com that I'm trying to convert to fastcgi. Under CGI, the application runs via perlbrew using a self-compiled perl. In the Apache 2 error log, I'm getting [Mon Nov 13 13:31:53 2017] [error] [client 98.150.189.73] Premature end of script headers: dispatch.fcgi When I run the script dispatch.fcgi, it brings up the Dancer HTTP server: HTTP::Server::PSGI: Accepting connections at http://0:5000/ >From the Dreamhost docs[1,2] and using the supplied test script, I don't need to modify the Apache configuration. The only changes I made to the original dispatch.cgi -- gleaned from Dancer::Deployment -- were updating the script name and mod_rewrite rule. File listings that make up my deployment follow. I don't grok is how running dispatch.fcgi, which ends in an 'exec', relates to an existing, persistent Dancer process. Perhaps Plack::Runner->run() should receive a coderef rather than a filename? I tried, but received the same the error message.
