High CPU usage on DB

Hi All Posting this to the Dancer list as there is possibly a connection. We have a fairly complex query we run from our web app and it normally runs just fine. However, we have noticed that after while the system slows down and we see the postgres server on 100% CPU. It is not out of memory and not thrashing the disk. We have 2 app servers each with 10 workers. We use the Dancer database module to create a connection, and so in this case we have 20 connections to the DB. When we see the performance issue, a restart of Starman cures the problem. We never have to do anything in the DB, just dropping those Starman connections is enough to resolve. I don't understand enough about how the DBI connections work - does the above ring any bells for anyone? Z

Dancer2::Plugin::Database Set transaction isolation level read uncommitted in quick_select

Fellow dancers, Is there some way can get database->quick_select in Dancer2::Plugin::Database to execute some sql statement prior to the select? Specifically I need to execute "Set transaction isolation level read uncommitted" in order to avoid my queries being blocked. What would be really nice is if there was an additional parameter you could pass into quick_select of whatever sql to execute before the quick_select. Any ideas? Dancer2 0.204000 improves app config, content caching, and dependency management

Failing to send a file in iso-8859-1

Hello everyone, I would like to send the CSV content of a scalar variable as a file to the browser by using send_file in Dancer1. My sample code looks like this: send_file( \$str, content_type => 'text/csv', filename => 'foo.csv', ); The problem is that external requirements force me to send the file in iso-8859-1 and it seems that I cannot manage to achieve that. My first attempt was to just encode the content (which I should do anyway, I guess): $str = Encode::encode('iso-8859-1', $str); send_file( \$str, content_type => 'text/csv', filename => 'foo.csv', ); However, it seems like the content gets somehow magically re-encoded to UTF-8. Moreover, the browser receives a content type header of Content-Type:text/csv; charset=utf-8 So I have tried the following variants: $str = Encode::encode('iso-8859-1', $str); send_file( \$str, content_type => 'text/csv', charset => 'iso-8859-1', filename => 'foo.csv', ); ---- $str = Encode::encode('iso-8859-1', $str); send_file( \$str, content_type => 'text/csv', encoding => 'iso-8859-1', filename => 'foo.csv', ); ---- $str = Encode::encode('iso-8859-1', $str); send_file( \$str, content_type => 'text/csv; charset=iso-8859-1', filename => 'foo.csv', ); The first two do not seem to change anything, the last one results in a content type header of Content-Type:text/csv; charset=iso-8859-1; charset=utf-8 In all cases, the content of the file is UTF-8 encoded. log file stop recording

Hi, I want to use log file to monitor what is happening on the website, but I found the log file is not recording any more. Does anyone know where is to set the log file to keep the log? If it keep going, do we need to clear it regularly otherwise it full up the space? Explicitly defining location of config.yml (current hitch on path to running Dancer as a service)

Hi, I have a small app running on a server for restricted use, and want to have it as a standard service. Unfortunately DaemonTools is not available as an official rpm for Red Hat, so I can't use it. I installed Ubic and tried with that, but gave it up when I could not find a way to get it to work under HTTPS. As a last resort wrote a loader script which uses Systemd::Daemon and runs as a simple supervisor service which starts/reloads/stops the Dancer app. So far so good, but the app once started does not seem to pick up config.yml, and the database connection information in there - so the app is running but cant do anything. The problem seems to be that when started in this way it uses / as the working directory, and there is no way to tell plackup to look elsewhere for the config. I tried this and that, but failing so far. Happy to change the approach, but really hoping to be able to keep all dependencies of the finished product within perl and my perlbrew folder. Cheers, Nik

Using auto_page - is there a canonical way to indicate the index page and handle missing 'templates'

Hi All, I imagine this might be a typical use case - retro-fitting login and dynamic personalization features to what was a sizeable static-site, originally created and still maintained using a CMS. Content editors use the CMS as normal to create and edit their content, except that the HTML files are now .tt files with some added template toolkit directives. There's no Dancer layout as page assembly is still handled by the CMS. In this scenario, utilizing auto_page, is there a recommended Dancer2 best practice for returning index.tt or a 404 under *all* the situations under which it should be returned given an arbitrarialy deep directory structure? Clarification on Dancer instances

Hi all, I'm trying to solve a mysterious Dancer / Starman / server issue, and need some clarification on Dancer instances. Do instances of a Dancer app stay around between requests, or is the app created when a request comes in, it does its stuff, and then it is destroyed? What happens to variables set with the 'var' keyword: will they persist on a dancer app between requests? Thanks, Amelia.
